North Carolina Physicians' Malpractice Records Now Online

Injured North Carolina workers can now find more information about North Carolina licensed physicians and physician assistants online.   Since 2001, just the basic professional and licensing information, charges, allegations and disciplinary actions the the board had taken against doctors were being posted.  The Medical Board now shows settlements of $75,000 or more (dated after May 1, 2008). This available information will stay on their website for 7 years after being posted.  The North Carolina Medical Board came under fire for "protecting" doctors because of how some malpractice cases were being handled.  Those who oppose the listing of malpractice settlements feel it doesn't have anything to do with the quality of care the doctors provide.  Even with this opposition, the board voted unanimously in favor of providing online malpractice judgements and settlements.  This transparency is good news for North Carolina Workers' Compensation claimants.
